Purpose:

  • Simple way to browse through images, text or swf files online and offline, resizable and with crossfade transitions between the images.

Requires:

  • Shockwave plugin, when used online

Usage:

Installation:

  • No installation required. Simply copy the file "MediaBrowser.dcr" to the desired folder.
  • Use the html file "index.html" as a template for browser playback. This file can be renamed to match your own needs. Important note for playback in the browser: Browser playback is only supported, when running from a webserver. For security reasons there are restrictions to local file access in shockwave, so you won't see the media, when using a local URL ("file:///..."). Use the standalone application for offline or CD-ROM usage.

Usage:

  • Copy the contents of the folder "PutContentsIntoDestinationFolder" ("MediaBrowser.dcr" and "index.html") into the folder with the folders with media for the albums.
  • Start the application "MediaBrowserSA" and in the upcoming dialog select the file "MediaBrowser.dcr", which you previously copied to the desired folder.
  • If there is no file "infotext.xml" in this folder, all subfolders are scanned for media files and a file "infotext.xml" is automatically generated, which is then used subsequently (esp. for online use, as we can't scan through the folders online)
  • For each subfolder an Album is generated with the thumbnail of the first image file
  • Select an album by mouseclicking on its icon
  • The media will be loaded and for each file a thumbnail will be generated in the lower slider
  • Click on an media thumbnail to display the media
  • Scroll through the media slider by either mouseclick and drag on the slider or by dragging the littel red arrow at the bottom
  • Use the arrow buttons or the arrow keys on your keyboard to advance media (or albums => up and down arrow keys) by one
  • Resize the window to enlarge/shring the viewer
  • Hide/show both slider bars with the littel up/down arrow button
  • Hold down the Command + Option (Alt) + Shift key while mouseclicking on the header at the top to enter "Edit mode"
  • Enter a caption for each media file, by clciking on the caption line below the media display and type a caption with your keyboard
  • Reorder the thumbnails by clicking with the mouse, holding for a second and dragging
  • Delete images by dragging them outside the slider
  • Rotate images with the "Rotate" button at the top (Note, the originals are not rotated, the images will be rotated only in memory each time the browser displays them)
  • Save the album with the "Save settings" button at the top. A file "infotext.xml" will be written to the selected folder, which contains the infos for each album. You can edit this file in another application, if you desire. In order to be played back online (shockwave) there must be such a xml file in each folder

Customization:

  • You can put a png file named exactly "MediaBrowserHeader.png" next to the "MediaBrowser.dcr" to replace the header with your own header
  • Edit the Tag "headerLink" in the "infotext.xml" to match the link you want to be opened on click of the header
  • Each albums Xml file has the following tags:
    • "ownerID" => required for identification (don't change)
    • "theText" => the text on the left side for each album. Note, that this can also be a link to a file => [link:realtiveFilePath]. The format of the file can be one of the following: rtf, html or text (default). Use RTF (extension .rtf) or HTML (extension .html or .htm) files for styled text with links.
    • "icon" => realtive filepath to image file for album icon (default is the first image of this album)
    • "imgInfos" => list with data for each media file. Tags are:
      • "myFile" => relative filepath to this medium
      • "Caption" => Caption for this medium
      • "myImageRotation" => rotation in degrees
      • "theText" => overrides album text on the left side
  • File filters: You can specify file filters for the files to appear in the albums. In authoring mode (Standalone application) edit the global variables "gSkipFiles" and "gSkipMode" in the file "Lingo.ini". In online (shockwave) playback mode edit the html file which has the .dcr file embedded. The parameter "sw2" corresponds to "gSkipFiles" and the parameter "sw3" to "gSkipMode" (Make sure you edit both "sw2" and "sw3" tags, within the object tag and within the embed tag)
  • Specify a different "Album root folder" with "gMediaFolder" (in shockwave: "sw1"). The root folder is a relative path beginning with the loaction of "MediaBrowser.dcr"
